A blackjack professional’s view of the top 6 mistakes made in the movie “21″

If you are into blackjack then you might find “21″ the movie pretty interesting and while many blackjack pro’s have their opinion on it, a common less experienced  blackjack player would not notice a few mistakes made in the movie.

This movie is supposedly based on a true blackjack story and any pro would understand that Hollywood wanted to do their own thing with the outline but since we understand blackjack and you want to play blackjack then you might find this article helpful. Just before listing the mistakes you are invited to play free blackjack at 888.com.

1. Blackjack is all about the strategy

The first inaccuracy a professional blackjack player would notice is the quote made by the leading actress that blackjack isn’t always about strategy as people might think. Well that statement is wrong and a player should always keep in mind that blackjack is always about strategy and whether or not a player uses this strategy correctly or not determines how well the player does while playing blackjack.

2. Tipping the blackjack dealer

A little tip about tipping the blackjack dealer is that while it is acceptable, one should not tip enthusiastically while receiving a winning hand. You can notice in the film that the actors tip the blackjack dealer hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars and that is a misconception of how one should play. Giving ridiculous tips to the blackjack dealer reduces your winnings and as a professional blackjack player that is not something you can afford to do.

3. Don’t get caught counting in blackjack but if you do…

The harassment part of the movie when caught counting cards playing blackjack by casino “employees” is pretty inaccurate at least in modern day settings, when someone punches you in the face and hands you a business card, call the police. This isn’t the 50′s or 60′s and the police aren’t owned by the mob and harassment is illegal.

4. Blackjack BP system works wonders if used correctly

Another inaccuracy that a pro blackjack player can notice is that a couple times in the movie they had two big players or “BP’s” sitting down at the same table. When using the blackjack “BP” approach there is no reason to sit two big players at the same blackjack table because there is nothing going on at a blackjack table that one BP can’t handle and that would be a wrong use of resources.

5. Counting in blackjack is difficult but comprehendible

They are obviously using the blackjack high-low count system in the movie and in using that system you often have to convert from what’s the “running count” to what is the “true count” and there was never a time in which they explained or ever seem to use what is called a true count which would mean they weren’t playing the strategy properly or at least they didn’t express that in the movie. This is probably the most difficult concept of counting cards in blackjack so it is understandable why they left that out at the same time it is pretty important when you are talking about counting cards in a blackjack movie.

6. Huge counts in blackjack are so very rare

The last misconception that I want to point out is that the “big player” was always called into a   blackjack table on huge counts of 16 (“sweet”) or 17 (“magazine”) and what you need to know is that in the game of blackjack in a regular 6 deck game, if you have a running 16 count or running 17 count your edge over the dealer is actually really significant and these running count are very very rare. If professionals use the big player system, usually a BP would be called into a blackjack table on a running count of 1 or two and rarely a 3 count so it’s pretty ridiculous always seeing in the  movie the huge over the top blackjack counts.
